Rothar began his mercenary career in the thick forest along the border between Aiwa and the Yagtrisel Union. The young fighter happened upon a group of bandits led by a particularly clever half-orc named Varin. The half-orc offered a position in the warband to Rothar, which he gladly accepted fearing death should he refuse. The bandits would prey upon caravans trading goods along the border of the two nations. Rothar began to practice his fighting skills alongside these outlaws and collected pieces of armor until he had an entire suit of armor.
A rich noble in Aiwa wanted to begin provoking the Fandormans into a war and hired Varin’s warband to seek that end. The clever Varin commanded his warband as a guerrilla unit whiley they continued ransacking with the backing of a rich Aiwan noble. It was during this time that Rothar became very uneasy with his involvement in the banditry. Before, they had only attacked armed caravans, but now they were ransacking villages and slaughtering all the inhabitants. Unfortunately, he seemed to be the only one who cared about this new development, as the rest of the warband reveled in the massacre.
As the war loomed on the horizon, Varin’s alliance became tenuous as the noble didn’t want to be seen supporting such bloodthirsty bandits. He sent troops after Varin’s warband and in the dead of night, struck out to eliminate their shady alliance. As all of Rothar’s friends were cut down around him, he panicked. Staggered from his wounds, he fled the battle and turned his back on his old friends. Bleeding out and gravely wounded, Rothar could not get far. He headed towards a nearby cave close to a caravan they sacked earlier in the week. Using what he learned from the bandits, he bandaged his wounds as best as possible and rested in the general safety of the small cave.
He rested for a few more days before heading out to flee the region. He wanted to put this entire war behind him. Traveling for weeks, he eventually found that Cycruss had not heard a word of his warband and began to search for work. Selling his sword out, he has become a deeply private man who stays calm in any fight. While he tries to forget his bloody past, the innocents he murdered and his fallen comrades, the scars continue to haunt him.
